Writer Beware's Self-Publishing Page Renovated and Updated

Posted by Victoria Strauss for Writer Beware

I've completely re-worked the Self-Publishing page of Writer Beware, to better reflect the rapid changes in the self-publishing marketplace.

New features include an introduction that provides an overview of how technology has transformed self-publishing, pointers on making the decision to self-publish (or not), an expanded list of cautions for self-publishers (including common scams), and many new links to articles, experts, and statistics.

Comments and suggestions are welcome. Please post them here, or email me.

Timely and useful information here, Victoria. May I make a couple of suggestions? Add iTunes to your group of ebook retailers that allow direct upload, and move Kobo from the aggregators's section to this list as well.

Also, to the aggregators, you might want to add D2D (Draft to Digital) which began about a year ago and is growing rapidly.

Thanks for the suggestions, Maggie. You aren't the only one to point out my error with Kobo (which I've corrected).

I didn't include iTunes because the application process is so cumbersome. I'll re-evaluate, though.

I'll check out D2D as well. Thanks again!

Thank you for updating the Self-Publishing page! Any word yet on SFWA admitting self-published authors?

Re: SFWA admitting self-published writers--I'm not sure how much I should say about the internal process, but I can tell you that it is moving forward. I'm hopeful that there will be a decision by the end of the year.
